SEALING

Marble is a softer material and more porous than granite, therefore it is especially important that marble countertops and vanities be properly sealed and cared for.

First-time sealing is usually done by installers. Natural stone surfaces should be periodically resealed with a penetrating sealer, a fairly easy process that can be done by customers themselves.

Sealers can be purchased through stone suppliers or at any home improvement stores. Check with your supplier for food-safe sealers.  Majority of sealers are food-safe.

REGULAR CLEANING

Countertops or vanities should be occasionally washed with warm water and wiped dry with a clean cloth. Wiping surface with a damp cloth will not leave streaks.

Depending on soil, use a soft cloth to wash stone surface with a few drops of neutral cleaner, stone soap, or a mild liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Rinse the surface after washing and wipe dry.

SPILLS

It is best to wipe off all spills immediately. First, blot the spill with a paper towel. Then, rinse the area with plain water and mild soap. Wipe dry with a cloth.

FLOOR CLEANING

Periodically, wipe floors with clean water and cloth. This should be sufficient to keep stone floors clean. If stone floors are especially dirty they should be wiped with stone detergents and rinsed with clean water.

*Stone sealers and cleaners can be purchased through stone suppliers or at any home improvement stores.
